Funeral music
Just as there are many different readings that you might want to have in a funeral service, there is a wealth of music that you might use as well. At a Christian funeral, the music is likely to include a hymn or two, but beyond this there is plenty of scope for including favourite songs and music. This music could be played on the way in and out of the church or crematorium, or during the service itself.
If someone from St Edyth’s will be conducting the funeral then they will come and talk about all aspects of the service, including the music. But here are the titles of some popular hymns so that you can take time to look at the words and think about what they say.
Abide with me
All things bright and beautiful
Amazing grace
Blessed assurance
Dear Lord and Father of mankind
Great is thy faithfulness
Guide me O thou great redeemer
Lead us heavenly Father, lead us
God of all hopefulness
Love divine, all loves excelling
Make me a channel of your peace
Morning has broken
Now thank we all our God
O Lord my God, when I in awesome wonder
O love that will not let me go
Praise my soul the King of heaven
Rock of ages
The day thou gavest
The King of love my shepherd is
The Lord’s my shepherd
Thine be the glory
To God be the glory
What a friend we have in Jesus
