Wedding music
There is a wealth of music that you might want to use during your wedding service. At a Christian wedding, the music is likely to include some hymns or worship songs, but beyond this there is plenty of scope for including other favourite songs and music.
If you are getting married at St Edyth’s then the person conducting the wedding will come and talk to you about all parts of the service, including the music. But here is some guidance for you to start thinking about the different aspects of music during your service.
There are three parts to choosing the music for your wedding.
Choosing the music that is played when the bride enters the church, and when the bride and groom leave the church.
There are lots of options here. If you want to listen to some of them to help you choose, try looking at this site. This site has some clips from some of the most familiar tunes. Listen to a few and see what you like. Don’t feel too constrained by where they say the pieces of music should be played, or where you need music in the service.
Choosing the music to be played or sung during the signing of the register.
You might want to get someone you know (or hire) to perform a piece of music here. Alternatively, the organ could play a suitable piece of music, or you could use some music from CD.
Choosing two or three hymns to be sung during the service.
Again, there are lots of options. Take a look at this site. This site has some clips to play and the words of the hymns for you to look at (scroll to the bottom of the page for these). Try to choose hymns that you think the people coming to your wedding will be familiar with. It’s better to have people singing that a deathly silence falling over the church when the organ starts!
