Vision & Values

Following Jesus, Bringing hope

We at St Edyth’s aspire to be a loving, hope-filled family of growing followers of Jesus Christ, committed to the spiritual and social transformation of Sea Mills, Coombe Dingle and beyond. Following Jesus, bringing hope…

Gathering, Growing and Going in Jesus’ name

We Gather together to worship God, revealed in the person of Jesus, and in the power of the Holy Spirit (John 4:24, we worship in ‘Spirit and in Truth’)

We Grow together into mature, resilient and passionate disciples of Jesus (Ephesians 4:1-16). Everybody a disciple, every disciple a disciple maker.  We commit to:

Meet together regularly (Hebrews 10:25) on a Sunday and in a smaller group where possible, sharing fellowship, ministry and mission, being intentional and responsible for our own discipleship and seeking to disciple others (Matthew 28:19-20).

Welcome visitors, irrespective of beliefs or background, that they might make friends and feel at home here

Provide opportunities for seekers to explore the Christian faith

Study and honour God’s word as revealed in the Bible, aligning our whole lives around it (2 Timothy 3:16-17)

A life of prayer and spiritual discipline, seeking to fulfil God’s purpose for our lives in worship, fellowship, discipleship, mission and ministry

Cultivate the fruits of the Spirit (Galatians 5:22-23) and practice the gifts of the Spirit (1 Cor 12:8-10 & elsewhere) for ministry in God’s church

We Go out into the world together, as we love God and love others (Matthew 22:37-39), seeking the spiritual and cultural transformation in our society and in partnership with local churches and the Avonside Mission Area (ASMA).  Our whole lives are a grateful response to the generous, unearned, saving grace of God which we have received.  We acknowledge that everything we have belongs to God. We commit to:

Using our gifts, our time and our resources (including financial) generously, and in his service through the local church and beyond

Prioritise reaching out to younger generations

Give hope to our community, and on our own ‘frontline’ by sharing the good news of Jesus’ salvation with others in word and deed

Give generously in acts of loving service, addressing the needs of those in our community

Challenge and overcome injustice and evil of every kind, including poverty, addiction, despair, violence or harm, pursuing God’s peace and reconciliation in situations of conflict

Safeguard the integrity of creation and sustain and renew the life of the earth
